Maternity photo session in studio, outdoors or at home: which is the best option?
One of the first questions I get asked when a mum gets in touch about a maternity session is: where should we do it?
And the honest answer is that it depends. There isn’t one option that’s better than the others — there’s one that fits you best, your situation, and the kind of photos you imagine when you picture this memory.
Here’s what each one looks like, so you can decide without any pressure.

Studio maternity session
This is my favourite option, and the one I recommend most when there’s no particular reason to choose something different.
Why? Because at the studio, there’s nothing to worry about. The walls are white, the light is controlled, and I have clothing available to use during the session. You arrive, and everything is already taken care of.
The result is a clean, minimalist look in cream and white tones, where the only thing that matters is what you’re living through: that connection between you before your baby arrives. No distractions — just you.
Perfect whether you’re coming as a couple or bringing little ones along — the space works well for everyone and the session flows naturally whatever your situation.

Outdoor maternity session
Outdoor sessions take place at locations in the mountains around Madrid, making the most of natural light and the surroundings to create something a little different.
This option works especially well when there are children in the family — and particularly when there’s more than one. Outside there’s more space, more freedom to move around, and little ones can play and run without it being a problem. Quite the opposite, actually — those spontaneous moments often make for the most beautiful photos. The session still centres on the mum-to-be and the family connection, but the atmosphere is more relaxed and there’s more room for things to unfold naturally.
That said, it’s also a wonderful option if it’s just the two of you — the light and the natural surroundings make for something really special.

At-home maternity session
For anyone who wants a more personal and intimate memory, an at-home session offers something the other options simply can’t: it’s your space, your things, the place where you’re going to live this chapter of your life.
There’s something really beautiful about photographing this moment in the room where your baby is going to sleep, or in the living room where you spend your evenings together. It’s a memory with a lot of personality.
The one thing that matters is natural light — it’s what I work with, and it’s what shapes the final result. The look of these sessions depends a lot on the home itself: a minimalist house with plenty of natural light will produce results very similar to the studio; a home with more colour and detail will have a more personal, distinctive feel. Both are lovely, just different.
Perfect whether you’re coming as a couple or with little ones.

So, which one should I choose?
If you’re not sure, here’s a quick guide:
Studio → you want a clean, minimalist look and don’t want to think about anything. Perfect whether you’re coming as a couple or with children.
Outdoors → you have children — especially more than one — and want them to be a real part of the session. Also a beautiful option if it’s just the two of you and you fancy something more dynamic, out in nature.
At home → you want a more intimate, personal memory in your own space. Perfect whether you’re coming as a couple or with little ones.
If you’re still not sure, just get in touch and we’ll work it out together. Tell me a little about what you have in mind and I’ll help you find the option that feels right.
