Newborn Photo Session in Madrid: What to Expect and When to Book
What to expect from your newborn photo session (and when to get in touch)
You’re pregnant. Maybe in your second trimester, maybe further along. And you’re already picturing that moment: your baby in your arms, tiny, with that smell you don’t know yet but somehow already know you’ll want to hold on to forever.
A lot of mums get in touch at exactly this point in their pregnancy, with their baby moving around in their bump, telling me they’re already thinking about the photos. And I love that. Because that’s exactly the right time to contact me.
Not because there’s anything complicated to organise. But because diaries fill up, and I want to be there for you when that day comes.

Book during pregnancy, then forget about it
You don’t need to know your due date exactly. You don’t need to have made any decisions. Just drop me a message, we have a chat about what you have in mind, and I’ll hold your spot.
When your baby arrives, let me know and we’ll arrange the session for those first few days. Everything else is already taken care of.
I often hear from mums right after giving birth, baby in arms, looking for a photographer that same week. And it’s hard to tell them I’m fully booked — not because I don’t want to help, but because my diary is already reserved for families who got in touch earlier.
That’s why I always say the same thing: the second trimester is a good time to message me. Not to add another thing to your list, but to tick this one off and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy without it hanging over you.

The day of the session: easier than you think
A newborn photo session isn’t an event to prepare for. It’s simply some time with your baby, in a calm and quiet space, where there’s no rush.
You arrive at the studio with your baby, just as you are. If they need feeding the moment you walk in, we feed them. If they need feeding three times during the session, three times it is. There’s no clock, no deadline. The session takes as long as it needs to — usually between two and three hours — but that’s down to your baby, not to us.
The one thing I’d ask is that you come without the pressure of everything having to go perfectly. It doesn’t need to. It just needs to go the way babies want it to go, and in all my years doing this, that has always been enough to create beautiful images.
What if the baby doesn’t sleep?
That’s absolutely fine. Some babies sleep through almost the entire session; others spend the whole time wide awake taking everything in. Both are wonderful. When a baby is awake and content, we simply shift focus and capture that instead — their expressions, their little face, the way they look at you. It’s another way of telling the story of who your baby is, and those images often have a personality all of their own.

Photos with mum and dad
This is something I always make a point of, and families always thank me for it later.
Every session includes photos with you. Not just the baby on their own. Photos of you holding your little one, photos of dad cradling them for the first time, photos of the three of you together.
I know a lot of mums feel a bit self-conscious about being in photos so soon after giving birth. I completely understand. But I can promise you this: those are the photos your children will treasure most when they’re older. They won’t see how you looked. They’ll see the way you looked at them. And when one of you is no longer here, those images will be priceless.
There’s always the option not to keep them — but in all my years, I’ve never had a family who didn’t want them.

If the older sibling is coming along
We can absolutely do photos together, and they’re often some of the most special of the whole session. There’s something really lovely about capturing that new relationship as it begins — the older one stepping into their role as a big brother or sister, the way they look at the baby, the way they interact.
My studio is small and cosy, so what tends to work best is for dad to be ready to head outside to the garden with the little one while we work with the baby, and to bring something they enjoy — a toy or something to keep them entertained during the quieter moments. That way the older one is happy, and you can be fully present during the session.

What to bring
Nappies, wipes, a change of clothes or two. The same as you’d pack for any outing with a newborn. I have everything we need for the photos here at the studio.
Pregnant and already thinking about this?
Then get in touch. Not to organise anything complicated, but so we can have a chat, so you know how I work, and so that when the day comes everything is already sorted.
My studio is in Moralzarzal, in the mountains just outside Madrid. My clients come from all over the Community — Madrid centre, Las Rozas, Tres Cantos, Collado Villalba, Torrelodones, Majadahonda, Alcobendas… If you’re not sure whether you can make it, just ask.
